As always, there's an entire season to play out and there are several assumptions made in creating this preseason list. There are some younger names that we will predict to be breakout stars that you'll probably only know unless you have followed this site for a few years. For example, Keyshon Buckman, the 6'4 185 lb junior speedster from Lincoln High gets the nod at WR even though he has a limited number of games to showcase his talents. Bellevue West has so much talent at the WR spot but in the end, statistics probably won't allow them all to get on the all-state team. You also have to look at offensive systems that allow production from a statistic. Ben Warren, a 2018 Super State 9th looks like he'll have a monster season running behind what looks like one of the better offensive lines on a single team in recent memory. It's not a great year in Class A for next level running backs so this one could get interesting by the time the end of the season comes around.
One thing you always have to do with this type of list is separate out talent from projected production. There are some high level recruits listed behind less highly-touted players. But at the end of the year, some players are going to put up better numbers. This list is NOT a reflection of talent or next-level college ability so please don't bring that argument here if you think someone is getting slighted. There a
The two preseason favorites in Class A are led by Air Force Bound TJ Urban and NDSU recruit Cole Payton. Either one is deserving of the top spot but there's only one so whoever eventually lands on the all-state team will probably have led their team to a state title.
Bellevue West is so ridiculously deep at linebacker-I can't recall a better group on one team with McDonnell, Ryan Rogers (back from injury) and Kier Kier. I would have no problem putting all 3 on the first team-they're that good. But they'll split up their tackles and that's the way it goes. This class is so deep with linebackers I feel bad for leaving some names off but I didn't want to do an honorable mention list.
